Cell Phones May Accelerate New Jersey Online Gambling
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Internet gambling is growing slowly in New Jersey, less than three months after it started.
But casino executives and industry analysts say the increased use of cellphones to place bets, which is starting to happen, could accelerate the growth of the nascent industry in New Jersey.
The casinos won $7.4 million over the Internet in December. January's $9.5 million represented a 28 percent increase.
Casinos including the Borgata, Caesars, Tropicana, Trump Plaza and the Taj Mahal offer Internet gambling over mobile devices, while others are planning them in the near future.
Fitch Ratings says it expects the rollout of mobile device gambling to speed up the growth of Internet gambling in New Jersey.
