CDC Recommends Autism Screening For Infants At 18 Months

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The CDC is recommending children be screened for Autism as early as 18 months of age.

A report in the Journal of Pediatrics says this can be done. They cite a study where pediatricians asked 10,000 parents of infants a list of 24 questions focusing on communication skills.

There are many studies and reports released on Autism in any given year, but this is one of the most significant. It stresses the importance of early intervention to determine what children are at risk.

Autism is extremely difficult for families in this situation. We're still not sure why we're seeing an increase in the number of cases. Until we have an answer it's crucial to provide every child the opportunity for the best chance of success.
