CBS News Anchor Scott Pelley Offers Insights on Local and National Issues

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fewer Washington, DC news conferences could signal progress toward ending the government shutdown.
That's what CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley said at a Philadelphia breakfast this morning to the local Chamber of Commerce.
Pelley told 1,200 members of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce that there may be some progress toward ending the government shutdown and raising the debt celiing. He notes that President Obama and House Speaker Boehner haven't been publicly bashing each other.
"When they stop doing that and stop negotiating in public, start negotiating with each other, that's when things start to happen. It gives me some hope that we've heard less from the president and the speaker of the house over the last 36 hours or so. They may start talking to each other, and that's the only way things get done," Pelley said.
He also told CEOs in the audience if they were considering writing a check to help the struggling Philadelphia school system, to write the check. Pelley says it's the most important thing they can do.
Pelley made his comments during a Chamber breakfast at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
