CBS Local Media Stations In Philadelphia Continue "Operation Brotherly Love" With American Red Cross For Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The CBS Local Media stations in Philadelphia – CBS 3, The CW Philly, KYW Newsradio 1060, 98.1 WOGL, SportsRadio 94 WIP, SportsRadio 610 WIP, Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, CBSPhilly.com and CBS Outdoor – continue to support the local Hurricane Sandy relief efforts with the American Red Cross through Operation Brotherly Love.
Meteorologist Carol Erickson, along with CBS 3's Mobile Weather Lab, will be on hand tomorrow, November 9th at 10 a.m. at Wawa's Lakewood, NJ event to provide a "power station" to help charge people's phones and electronic devices in one of the worst hit areas and where power problems still exist.
Last Friday, volunteers and on-air personalities from the stations, the American Red Cross and Wawa staffed a 12-hour-plus phone at the top of every hour and in news segments on CBS 3 and The CW Philly to take pledges for the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Response Fund.
Wawa contributed a $100,000 donation to the fundraising effort and is offering an in-store collection which allows customers to continue to contribute to the disaster relief by adding $1, $3, or $5 to their purchase at checkout. Wawa's efforts continue through Sunday and will be donated to the American Red Cross under the Operation Brotherly Love umbrella. Additionally, Wawa will also send a fully stocked truck to the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean County filled with 8 tons of product, including water and shelf-stable, essential items desperately needed at this time to help restock their pantries.
CBS 3 and The CW Philly will promote messaging throughout the day to remind viewers they can still contribute to the cause by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Details on how to donate can also be accessed on-line at www.cbsphilly.com/donate.
"Our stations embrace the role of stepping forward and assisting those who have been affected by this devastating storm," says CBS 3/The CW Philly President and General Manager Jon Hitchcock. "We continue to support the American Red Cross through their tireless efforts and we hope that these contributions will help people to rebuild and recover."
CBS 3 and its sister stations created Operation Brotherly Love in 2001 as a way to mobilize the Delaware Valley's response to the 9/11 disaster. Under that same banner, the stations later raised $300,000 for Tsunami victims and more than a $1 million plus for Katrina victims in 2005 and just shy of $1 million for Haitian Earthquake victims in 2010.
