CBS 3's 'Joy Of Sharing' Raises $212,000, Collects 5,000 Toys For Salvation Army & Families In Need
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - CBS 3 and The CW Philly 57 teamed up with its CBS RADIO sister stations today to wrap up the 24th annual Joy of Sharing toy campaign with a day-long toy collection and on-air fundraising effort that raised $212,000 for The Salvation Army to help families in need this holiday season. The stations also collected 5,000 toys in the last month for children in need.
Anchors Susan Barnett, Pat Ciarrocchi and Ukee Washington along with Meteorologist Kathy Orr led the on-air fundraising effort with a phone bank from 3 to 8 p.m. Local celebrities including CBS Radio's 98.1 WOGL's Breakfast Club team of Ross Brittain, Valerie Knight and Frank Lewis, Talk Radio 1210 AM's Chris Stigall and Anthony Gargano of SportsRadio 94WIP and SportsRadio 610WIP joined volunteers to staff the phone bank and take donations.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will enable The Salvation Army to not only provide new toys and food to families in need during the holidays, but to support such programs as emergency shelters, child development programs, substance abuse programs and transitional housing among other services.
