Wig Store Owner Speaks Out About Child Who Stole Wallet

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- On Saturday, April 9, just after 8:30 p.m., Wilmington Police were called to Downtown Wigs located in the 700 block of North Market Street on a theft complaint.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the owner of the shop who told them that his mother's purse had been stolen out of the back room. The owner then showed police surveillance video of the theft, in which a woman can be seen directing her young son to go into the back room and take the purse.

Wilmington police say they're getting closer to finding the woman and little boy.

Eyewitness News was the only crew on scene when police went into a home in Newark, Delaware in search of the suspects. They didn't not find who they were looking for but said they had a few more leads to chase.

Friday, the owner of Downtown Wigs, spoke publicly about the incident, which lasted only four minutes.

"I'm fine, but I was very upset," she said. "I can't believe it. When I called police, and they come here, they said the same thing."

The owner tells police the estimated value of money taken was around $300.

The incident is still under investigation.
