Cary Williams Says 'Eagles Understand Magnitude Of Sunday's Game For DeSean Jackson'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- He's coming back.
He, of course, is DeSean Jackson the former Eagles star wide-out who was unexpectedly released by the Eagles this past April. Chip Kelly said it was, "purely a football decision," despite public allegations questions Jackson's character on and off-the-field.
Jackson is battling a sprained AC joint in his shoulder, but the hope is that he can play on Sunday in Philadelphia against the Eagles. Eagles cornerback Cary Williams says the Eagles understand the emotions surrounding this game, especially for Jackson.
"We understand the emotion behind that game [on Sunday] because DeSean Jackson is coming back," Williams told Scott Ferrall on CBS Sports Radio following the Eagles 30-27 win over the Colts on Monday night. "We understand the magnitude of that game for him. We're not gonna let that moment be too big for us. We're just gonna go out and play Eagles football and be the best we can possibly be on that day. Obviously it's a week away and we got to take it one day at a time. We can't necessarily focus on the game right now, we just got to enjoy this win and when that times we're gonna make the best of that opportunity."
The Eagles are coming off their second-straight win where they were trailing by double-digit points in the second half, becoming the first NFL team to start 2-0 in that fashion. Williams and the Eagles secondary impressively held talent Colts QB Andrew Luck to 172 yards passing on Monday night.
"We knew we had to be on the top of our game in order to be successful tonight," Williams said. "We had a couple plays that we gave up, but what I have to tell you about this team is that we're resilient. We continue to fight four quarters. Eventually we came down to a stop when we needed it and the offense capitalized on the opportunity."
On offense, new Eagles running back Darren Sproles was sensational accumulating 152 yards receiving on seven catches, and another 26-yards on the ground. The Eagles acquired Sproles in the offseason from the New Orleans Saints for a mere fifth-round draft pick.
"Yeah man, he's a great pick up," Williams said of his new teammate Sproles. "I think he may be one of the best pickups we possibly brought in, including draft picks as well. I think---he's a veteran. He shows tremendous leadership and just the will to make plays, man. He's a fighter and he's a feisty dude and he's not gonna stop until somebody gets him down and until the whistle blows. So, he's just out there competing and doing everything we asked him to do, man. A great leader and a great person to have in the locker room."
