Cary Williams Apologized To Team: 'It Won't Happen Again'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Cary Williams apologized to his teammates on Tuesday, for putting them in a bad position after saying the Eagles' practice regimen is too difficult.
"I did that out of anger and frustration. I could have been better in that situation," Williams told reporters on Tuesday. "I spoke to the team today. I addressed each man in there. Told them that I was sorry for what I said and put them in a difficult situation. I told them it won't happen again. I told them I won't talk negatively about the team or where we're going. We are 3-0. That's something to be proud of. I am happy that we are 3-0 because things could have gone otherwise."
Eagles corner Brandon Boykin says the team accepted Williams' apology and the focus is on the San Francisco 49ers.
"When we got here this morning he [Williams] wanted to address the team and you know, just kinda on his behalf and say that he apologized for putting us in that type of situation," Boykin told Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis on the 94WIP Afternoon Show. "So, everybody accepted it and we're moving on from that and really looking forward to Sunday because all of that outside stuff doesn't really go with what we have going on during the week."
Boykin explained that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who said Monday that he spoke with Williams and everything has been taken care, did not reinforce anything to the team this morning.
"You just got to know what type of person Cary is and how he really is a very emotional person and he plays with his heart on his sleeve," Boykin said of Williams. "I think that the message he was trying to get across is that people need to realize how hard that we practice because we do practice very hard, and as a defensive back you're playing special teams, you're player corner so we run more than anyone else."
What about Boykin, does he think practice is too hard?
"Now everybody has to answer to that question," Boykin explained. "I'm sure you'll get 53 different answers, but it just depends on what players you're talking to."
