Carter-Williams: Philly Fans Are 'Not Unreasonable'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The pressure of playing in a big market is new to Michael Carter-Williams. The thing is, the small market he played before this may have been even tougher for an athlete.
The Sixers rookie point guard played in front of bigger crowds in college than he has in Philadelphia. As one of the only attractions in town, Syracuse University basketball is a way of life in the central New York city.
The Sixers are far from the front of the minds of Philadelphia sports fans. Still, fans here have a reputation that the national media reminds the country of every time there's a home game on national television.
For Carter-Williams, it's been 'so far, so good.'
"Playing here is great. I think if you play hard and you compete the fans will always cheer, they're not unreasonable. It's tough at times, but I think overall it's been a good experience so far," Carter-Williams told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Friday.
The Sixers have a rematch with the Miami Heat on Friday night, the team the Sixers shocked to open the season in October. The Sixers, regularly predicted to be one of the worst teams in the league, jumped on the defending champs early, and held on for the opening night win.
Carter-Williams has surprised Philadelphia with his play during his rookie season, and the rest of the NBA as well. But he's got bigger goals than just a nice rookie year.
:I hope by then I think we'll be a definite playoff team and I hope to become an all-star," he said about his goals for the next few years.
