Car Collides With SEPTA Bus; 11 Injured

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A serious bus and car accident sent 11 people to the hospital Monday morning, according to Philadelphia fire officials.
A SEPTA spokesperson says a car collided with a route 18 SEPTA bus at the intersection of 2nd Street and Olney Avenue just after 8 a.m.
Witnesses say the bus was traveling west on Olney Avenue and had the green light, when a woman driving a white sedan was heading north on 2nd at a high rate of speed. The witnesses say she ran the light and hit the side of the bus. The bus then smashed into two parked cars.
Several neighbors said they heard the crash, and came running out to help. They found a woman trapped in her totaled Mitsubishi Lancer.
"It brought tears to my eyes," said neighbor Leafy Hudson, "she was in pain."
SEPTA officials said nine passengers were on the bus, including the driver. Witnesses said the driver was hurt when he hit his head.
Neighbor John Velez said he saw the entire crash first hand. "I was standing in front of my house and I seen the car coming down 2nd Street going at least 60 miles per hour. And when I turned around and looked at the red light, that's when I seen the impact."
SEPTA and Fire officials say all eleven people were transported to Albert Einstein and Temple University Hospitals. Police say all nine passengers and the bus driver were injured, but no injuries were life-threatening. The woman driver suffered broken bones, but her injuries were also non-life threatening.
Philadelphia's Accident Investigation Division is investigation the crash.
