Cape May County, NJ, In Irene's Path, Prepares For Direct Hit
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (CBS) - While emergency management officials at the Jersey shore coordinate their storm plans, residents are preparing for the worst.
With voluntary evacuations already in effect (see related story), shore residents are securing their homes and readying their properties for whatever comes.
Joanne Van Horn of Cape May Court House has lived here 24 years and has never had to evacuate. But she says she'll go if she has to.
"Just going to put everything away, secure everything down, hope for the best," she tells KYW Newsradio. "If I need to evacuate, I'll do that. And I'm going to the Acme now to store up on water in case we lose electric, because we do have a tendency to have that happen down here."
Atlantic Electric is warning customers to be ready for power outages that could last days if Irene brings down power lines.
