Local Candy Makers Meet The Rush of Last-Minute Easter Shoppers
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Moms, dads, and the Easter Bunny were hard at work today, trying to fill all those Easter baskets by Sunday.
Easter and Christmas are the most popular holidays in the candy business, and Tony Walter of Lore's Chocolates, on South 7th Street in center city Philadelphia, says he's been hard at work since January.
"Easter's all about tradition," Walter (right) tells KYW Newsradio. "It's the bunnies, the big bunnies, the coconut cream, the peanut butter, the hollow-shell eggs, the fruit-nut, and butter cream."
Sherry was filling her basket with goodies for her three kids.
"Chocolate cream egg and toffee crunch and some things for the kids," she said. How does she decide what to get?
"Just whatever looks good."
Of course it all looks good, and some items are just adorable -- like the little chicks in chocolate baskets.
"Little eggs in a chocolate basket, so the kids can eat the chocolate basket, the jelly beans, and the egg," says Sherry.
And Walter says this year's "must-have" is the caramel fudge pecan egg. Happy Easter!
