Candlelight Vigil Planned For Slain New Jersey Officer
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - His colleagues will hold a candlelight vigil Monday night for slain Lakewood Police Officer Christopher Matlosz.
The 27-year-old patrolman was shot to death behind the wheel of his patrol car Friday afternoon while questioning a pedestrian. That suspect, 19-year-old Jahmell W. Crockam, was arrested Sunday morning. He is charged with murder and weapons offenses, and will make an initial court appearance on Tuesday.
The vigil comes as the police department helps Matlosz's family plan his funeral on Thursday. Law enforcement officers from all around the country are expected to attend.
