PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two names have emerged as candidates for the Philadelphia schools superintendent position.
42-year-old Pedro Martinez, the deputy superintendent at the Clark County, Nevada school district, which includes Las Vegas, is one of the final two candidates for the superintendent position. Martinez is a CPA who's credited with helping boost the Vegas district's high school graduation rate. He previously served as a regional superintendent in the Chicago school system.
The second finalist, William R. Hite, Jr., Ed.D, will join Pedro Martinez for the final selection for Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. Currently, Dr. Hite is the Superintendent of the Prince George's County Public Schools.
Dr. Hite and Pedro Martinez are expected to meet the public at a community meeting at school district headquarters Monday night.
Shortly after the meeting, the district is expected to choose one of the two, as its next superintendent.
