Campbell's Soup Has Plans For Old Sears Building
By David Madden
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- The old Sears Building along the Admiral Wilson Boulevard is nothing more than rubble now as Campbell Soup Company moves forward with plans to develop an office park adjacent to its corporate headquarters in Camden. But what to do in the meantime?
Campbell Soup has worked for over six years just to get this far.
Company spokesman Anthony Sanzio says they didn't want to leave the site looking like a wrecking ball had just hit it, "so as a temporary step, we are planting natural grass on the site of the former Sears Building so that it is beautiful and it looks good for developers that we're showing the property."
And yes, they are talking to developers for what's being called the "Gateway Office Park," which is set to provide upwards of a half a million square feet of corporate space. There'll be one other change, an 87-foot billboard to replace the one that sat atop the old Sears Building.
As for development plans, Sanzio hopes to have an announcement in due time, calling the project a "marathon…not a sprint."
