Camden Theatre Telling Story of City's Vital History
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new community theater in Camden is telling the story of a once vital neighborhood on its way back.
KYW's Karin Phillips reports that right down to the original cash register, Joseph Papryzcki (photo) has recreated his grandfather's bar, Walt's Cafe, on the stage of a new theater at 4th and Jasper, which is on the original site of the bar.
In Last Rites, Papryzcki looks at the Waterfront South neighborhood in which he grew up, the shipyard workers who hung out at his grandfather's bar, and what happened to them and the neighborhood when the shipyards closed. Papryzcki says the play is about Camden and for Camden.
"You can't wait to see it in Haddonfield, you can't wait to see it in Philadelphia. You want to see it, here it is. So hopefully you will come and take a chance and come here and that's going to let this story play itself out."
