Camden Police Find Guns, Drugs And Stolen Vehicles Inside Abandoned Garage
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) – Police in Camden County say they've recovered a cache of guns, drugs and ammunitions from a garage in the City of Camden.
Officials say the stash -- which included two assault rifles, three semi-automatic handguns and an automatic, uzi-style, Mac 10 pistol – was discovered following reports of a reckless ATV driver in the Bergen Square neighborhood.
Authorities are crediting an alert citizen with starting this ball rolling.
It was after a resident called to complain about an all terrain vehicle whipping around near 7th and Sycamore that officers with the new Camden County Police force went looking for it.
After the driver of the ATV fled from police, they discovered the vehicle inside an abandoned garage at 744 Pine Street. During a search for the suspect, police uncovered half a dozen guns, magazines and ammunition, 28 bags of purported crack/cocaine, 106 bags of purported heroin, a bulletproof vest, two vehicles reported stolen from Buena Vista and Palmyra and a Hamilton Beach coffee grinder potentially used for grinding drugs.
Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli says there were a lot of nay-sayers when they started the new police department. He's grateful that people are calling in tips to police and says just hours after this seizure a routine car stop netted another semi-automatic handgun.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident. No arrests were made.
