Camden County, NJ Expands Its Emergency Operations Center
By David Madden
LINDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) -- Camden County has unveiled its newly expanded emergency operations center in Lindenwold.
Officials say they are getting more out of the space they already have, almost doubling the number of workstations, upgrading phones and computers, and installing a new video matrix system.
County freeholder Scot McCray says the changes will allow greater productivity anytime when emergency responders need to be on the same page.
"We can have state police on hand, our public works department. We can have other nonprofits that help people in time of need like the Red Cross come in and actually set up some workstations as well," McCray tells KYW Newsradio.
He says the county learned lessons from disasters such as hurricanes Sandy and Irene, not to mention more than a few blizzards over the years, prompting the upgrades to this facility.
