California Chrome Arrives At Parx Racing For Saturday's Pennsylvania Derby

By Mike DeNardo

BENSALEM, Pa., (CBS) -- A champion horse is in town. Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome has arrived at Parx Racing in Bensalem, to get ready for Saturday's Pennsylvania Derby.

Record crowds are expected at Parx Racing Saturday to see California Chrome. He's the three-year-old colt whose Triple Crown bid fell short at the Belmont. This is his first race since. Assistant trainer Alan Sherman says the timing of the Pennsylvania Derby attracted him, not the Parx bonus.

"The horse has made $3.5 million, another $100,000 is not going to change our mind on where we run this horse. It was just perfect timing as far as the Breeder's Cup goes," Sherman said.

Sherman says Chrome will get his first taste of the Parx track today.

"He'll go out and jog. Just jog once around the track. Take a look at the surroundings, and Thursday we'll start galloping," Sherman said.
