Cabrini Faces #1 Salisbury in Division 3 NCAA Lacrosse Quarters

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Cabrini College men's lacrosse team is still standing in the Division III NCAA Tournament.  After beating neighbor school Eastern and then Dickinson, the Cavaliers get their stiffest challenge yet on Wednesday night as they visit the #1 team in the land, 20-0 Salisbury.

Cabrini head coach Steve Colfer is proud of what his team has accomplished to this point. "Every win in the NCAA Tournament is special, and it's hard-fought," he said. "We kind of just continue to just re-emphasize that with our players and the coaches.  Each game, it's a grind and it takes a lot out of you.  They all feel good and we are really happy with where we are."

They don't get much better than this Salisbury team that the Cavaliers will face.  They had a first-round bye and then beat Goucher 12-4 to get here.

Colfer breaks down what makes them so special. "They are strong on both sides of the ball.   They have great face-off play, their goalie's very strong.  It's probably as well-prepared and well-coached a team that you'll see.

"They don't have a lot of chinks in their armor.  They are pretty strong from top to bottom, but we're going to just go down there and compete and play hard and leave it on the field.  But there's not many weaknesses, if any, that you can find through film prep or just getting to know your opponent," he said.

Cabrini and Salisbury do have a postseason history.  They have met in three other NCAA Tournaments since 2003 with Salisbury winning all three battles.

Cabrini and Salisbury will get underway tonight at 7:00pm.
