Cab Driver Carjacked, Shot In Hunting Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are searching for the gunman who shot a taxi cab driver in North Philadelphia early Saturday morning.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. outside of club QSL along the 3400 block of Old York Road in the Hunting Park section of the city.
Police say the 46-year-old cab driver was waiting inside his taxi when he was approached by a man who needed a ride. When the cab driver told the man that he was there to pick up someone else, the man pulled out a gun, grabbed the cab driver, tossed him to the ground and then shot him twice, once in the face and once in the hand, before fleeing in the cab.
The cab driver was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
Police found the abandoned cab a short time later a few blocks away near 9th and Venango Streets.
A security guard from the night club who witnessed the incident told police that the suspect fired shots at him and then he pulled his gun and returned fire. It is not known if the suspect was shot. The security guard was not injured.
No arrests have been made.
