Businesses Organize Book Drive To Restock Horsham School's Library Damaged By Fire

HORSHAM, Pa. (CBS) - A suspicious fire last month destroyed the library at a Horsham school and now local businesses are banding together and asking the community to help restock the shelves.
Nona Melnick, principal at Montessori Children's House on Upland Drive, describes the collection they had as amazing. There were more than two thousand books featuring some of the best in children's literature. But a fire in an outdoor shed last month spread to the library. The Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce has launched a book drive. Until they can rebuild the collection, Melnick says there will be a traveling library.
"The children usually start library in the beginning of October and we will continue that. It's a parent volunteer system where the parents come and they help us with library. They bring the children down to the library to select books."
She says they're looking for new and gently used books targeted for kids between 18 months and six years old. Melnick says the school was able to open on time last week with some new furnishings. The fire is still being investigated.
