Company Utilizing School Buses To Shuttle People During Papal Visit
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new service is offering to shuttle pilgrims to SEPTA stations for the pope's visit.
With parking around SEPTA rail stations expected to fill up for the pope's visit, a special shuttle might be the answer. The California-based company named Ryde is offering to take visitors from 54 park-and-ride locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland to SEPTA rail stops.
This company usually takes people to large sporting events and concerts. Ryde founder Bob Aube says he's secured 100 school buses for papal weekend. He notes, each bus could replace about 30 cars.
"This is a way a school bus could potentially reduce the gridlock, and make it a lot easier for people. They don't have to worry about parking."
Seats on most of the shuttles are $29 a piece, $49 for buses going longer distances. They're available at popebus.com.
The Pope Bus only started a few days ago. Aube isn't sure how many people will sign up for the shuttle rides.
