Burlington County Residents Welcome New 9-11 Memorial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a two year approval and construction process, a new 9-11 memorial has been completed in Burlington County, New Jersey.

Stanley Rowe, with the Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company, says after seeing fire departments from all across New Jersey applying for a piece of steel from the World Trade Center he decided to throw their company's name into the hat.

"It's a great honor to able to get it," Rowe says, "and then it was a great honor to have the governor call and say that he had picked our fire company, a little country fire company down here in Burlington County, that he was going to give us the piece of steel."

The new memorial was constructed by using a a steel I beam from the north tower. It is accompanied by granite with the engraved names of 9-11 victims and the deceased members of their fire and EMS units, as well as the names of New Jersey State Police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

The project cost more than $10,000, all made possible by donations.
