Police Chase Suspect Arrested After Colliding With Several Cars
EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — A Burlington County man is now behind bars after eluding officers on a dangerous police chase that resulted in a seven-car collision on Sunday.
Police in Voorhees were attempting to initiate a traffic stop on northbound Rt. 73 and Kresson Road when James C. Fitzpatrick Jr., 46, of Beverly, New Jersey, failed to pull over the gold Honda Civic he was driving.
According to police, Fitzpatrick collided with multiple vehicles during the pursuit and overturned after fleeing through a red light at the intersection of Rt. 73 and Evesham Road in Evesham Township.
Fitzpatrick did attempt to run from the crash scene on foot, but was apprehended.
Several people sustained minor injuries, four of which were taken to the hospital, CBS 3 has learned.
"The suspect provided false information to police, was found to be driving on a suspended license and to have numerous warrants for eluding law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions during high speed pursuits over the past three weeks," said the Voorhees Police Department in a news release.
Fitzpatrick was charged by the Voorhees Police Department with eluding, resisting by flight, obstruction, providing false information and numerous traffic violations.
He remains held at the Camden County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.
