Bucks County School District Seeks Approval For Additional Schools

BRISTOL TWP., Pa. (CBS) - This is a big week for the Bristol Township School District which is hoping to get approvals for three new elementary schools it's hoping to build.
Approvals for the new schools are currently at different stages in the process with zoning, planning and the township council all taking a look.
The district wants to spend about $111 million to build three new, state-of-the-art elementary schools to replace the nine elementary buildings in the district now.
Superintendent Samuel Lee says it's getting harder to keep the older buildings going:
"We would be dedicating significant amounts of resources just to keep them functional," he said. "Our building envelopes and our systems are very, very challenging."
The district says this is a good time to build because the cost of borrowing right now is low.
If all goes well, Lee says they could break ground on all three by late winter or early spring and two of the buildings could be finished by last summer of 2015.
