Bucks County Man Sentenced To 5 Years After Soliciting A Kidnapping
TRENTON, N. J. (CBS) – A Bucks County man has been sentenced to five years in prison after attempting to hire someone to kidnap a New Jersey woman and her child.
Forty-one-year-old Jayen I. Patel of Southampton, Pa. was sentenced on Monday after previously pleading guilty to soliciting an individual to aid in a kidnapping.
Officials say that in September 2010, Patel reached out to an undercover FBI agent through a social networking site and attempted to get the agent, who he thought was a white supremacist, to abduct a woman and her young daughter. Patel claimed that the father of the child wanted custody.
According to documents from the case, Patel gave instructions on how to split the child from the mother, told the undercover agent that he would be paid from the money taken from the victim--who Patel also said they could share as a slave after the kidnapping--gave the names and address of the victims, and gave instructions on the makeup of the people who should help with the kidnapping.
Patel was also sentenced to three years of supervised released and a fine of $1,000.
