Bucks County Man Sentenced For Pipe Bomb Scare

WARRINGTON, Pa. (CBS) – A 50-year-old Bucks County man has been sentenced to two-and-half years in prison for possessing pipe bombs, dangerous conduct that terrified his mother and forced the evacuation of their Warrington neighborhood in May of last year.
Federal prosecutor Judy Smith says the defendant's mother found a pipe bomb in their home when she returned from a hospital stay.
"Yes, he had a live pipe bomb next to a butane lighter on the kitchen sink. There were two other pipe bombs in the house," says his mother.
While acknowledging his conduct was dumb and dangerous, defendant John Grzyminski told the court at sentencing he had no intention to harm anybody, he's always been fascinated by rocket kits and fireworks. He also told police after his arrest he used them to hunt bears.
"We don't know why he had them for sure. We do know that he did not have a bear hunting license," says Smith.
Grzyminski has no prior criminal history and, although the defense argued for a lighter sentence, the judge said this conduct must be deterred.
