Bucks County Man Accused Of Having Loaded Handgun In Carry On Bag At Airport
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The TSA says a Bucks County man was arrested for having a loaded handgun in his carry on bag at the Trenton-Mercer Airport Tuesday night.
The man was stopped by officers at a checkpoint after a TSA officer spotted the handgun.
TSA notified the Mercer County Sheriff's Department, who arrested the man and confiscated the 9 mm. The weapon was loaded with eight rounds.
The man claimed he forgot he had the gun with him.
The Warrington resident was ticketed to fly to Charlotte, NC.
TSA says the weapon detected at the airport marked the first gun caught at the checkpoint so far this year.
TSA wants to remind passengers that weapons, including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition, are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared. Passengers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties up to $11,000.
