Bucks County Highway To Be Named in Honor of Slain Police Officer
By Brad Segall
WARMINSTER, Pa. (CBS) -- A stretch of highway in Bucks County will be named after a fallen Montgomery County police officer who was killed in the line of duty nearly two years ago.
Officer Brad Fox was shot and killed in September 2012 while patrolling the streets of Plymouth Township (see related story), but he grew up running around the streets of Warminster, Bucks County.
Signs will be erected soon on Route 263 between Street Road and Bristol Road honoring Fox, a decorated US Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq.
Pennsylvania state representative Bernie O'Neill says Fox played hockey for Tennent High School, so the location near what had been "Face Off Arena" is appropriate.
"So we kind of came up with the idea of naming that section of the highway after him, in front of where he spent most of his youth as an ice hockey player. And when we pitched the idea to the family, they just thought that was a wonderful idea."
Signs will soon be erected renaming that stretch of road the "Officer Bradley M. Fox Memorial Highway."
O'Neill calls Fox a local hero who fearlessly served his community. A formal ceremony unveiling the signs is expected to be held later this year.
