Pennsylvania, New Jersey Counties Issue Code Blue Weather Declarations
BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) – Counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey have issued "Code Blue" weather decorations ahead of Arctic air moving into the region.
Bucks County issued its first "code blue" weather declaration of the season beginning Tuesday and lasting until Thursday.
The National Weather Service predicts an extreme amount of cold weather during the middle of the upcoming week. With those predictions in mind, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency, along with the County Health Department, has issued a "Code Blue" declaration.
The Code Blue declaration will be in effect from Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. until Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7 a.m.
All on-call churches, including Emmaus Road Lutheran Church in Levittown, Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church in Warminster, and Quakertown Masonic Lodge, should plan to activate their emergency shelters.
Montgomery County has issued a Code Blue weather advisory for its residents that will begin at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12 and end at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. Temperatures and wind chills are expected to drop below 20 degrees,including in daylight hours, during the advisory.
Camden County's Department of Health and Human Services has also issued a Code Blue weather declaration for the remainder of the week. The Code Blue Advisory will be effective from 7 p.m. Dec. 12 until 7 a.m. on Dec. 16.
"We are expecting an arctic front to bring a blast of cold air later today. These harsh conditions will continue through the week with wind gusts, scattered snow flurries and overnight temperatures below 25 degrees," says Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services.
All municipalities with homeless populations in Camden County are expect to activate their Code Blue response plans as well.
Burlington County has issued a Code Blue weather advisory as well, effective from 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 until 9 a.m. Dec. 16.
Hamilton Township has issued a Code Blue Advisory beginning Dec. 12 until the end of the day Dec. 16.
All local public safety officials have been notified of the issued Code Blue and all residents are advised to be aware of another period of severe weather conditions.
