Bucks County Business Holding 'Barking Bachelorette' To Promote Pet Adoption

By Chelsea Karnash

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) – One local business has found a unique way to promote pet adoption and raise awareness for homeless pets.

Bucks County's Holiday House Pet Resort has teamed up with Lulu's Rescue in Point Pleasant, Pa. and Animal Alliance in Lambertville, NJ to help lonely canines find love—and forever homes. The pet resort, which offers overnight lodging for dogs and cats as well as daycare, activity packages, training and grooming services, is now hosting a doggie version of "The Bachelorette."

Dubbed "The Barking Bachelorette," the series of events stars four-legged Fiona, a two-year-old hound mix in need of a home, as the bachelorette. Over the course of the next few weeks, she'll meet three pup suitors, and Facebook and Twitter followers can vote for their favorite.

On Tuesday morning, the clever community outreach program kicked off with Fiona's first date with Tate, described as a "ruggedly handsome, happy-go-lucky, 2-year-old Shepherd mix." The two pups began their rendezvous with a little shopping at doggie boutique Life on a Leash, followed by a stroll and "Yappetizers" on the terrace at Puck's Restaurant in Doylestown.

Two more dates are scheduled for the Barking Bach, to be held the following two Wednesdays, After the last date, the winning dog and "Bow Wow Wedding Ceremony" will be announced.

And while it might sound a tad out there, the goal is to draw attention to four shelter dogs—and others like them—who need to find loving homes with human companions.

For more on the Barking Bachelorette or to vote for your favorite couple, visit the Holiday House Pet Resort page on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter. If you're interested in adopting, please call 215-345-6960 or email events@holidayhousepetresort.com.
