PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The final odds are in, and the two favorites to win the Super Bowl couldn't be led by two more different quarterbacks.
The 49ers and Broncos are the co-favorites to win XLVII at 6-1, according to the final preseason odds from Bovada. The Broncos are led on offense by Peyton Manning, a 37 year-old prototypical pocket passer, who has revived his career in Denver in hopes of adding a second Super Bowl ring to his resume before he retires. The 49ers will be led by Colin Kaepernick, who will be entering his first season as a starting NFL quarterback, after replacing Alex Smith in the middle of last season, taking San Francisco to the Super Bowl, but falling to the Baltimore Ravens. While Manning is the picture of the 'pocket passer,' Kaepernick's tools also include his incredible physical attributes, and make him one of the models of the new school of NFL quarterbacks.
If the 49ers do return to the Super Bowl and win, it will mark the first time a Super Bowl loser has returned to win the following year.
The next two teams most likely to win it all, the Seahawks at 17-2, and the Patriots at 10-1, also represpent a similar dynamic between quarterbacks. The legend in Tom Brady for New England, and the upstart new-age QB in Russell Wilson for the Seahawks.
You have to scan down the list of favorites quite a bit to find the Eagles, who are matched with Andy Reid's Chiefs as 50-1 shots to win the Super Bowl. The Eagles are tied with the Panthers as the second least likely to win the NFC, at 28-1. The longest shot is the Cardinals at 66-1.
The Eagles are the longest shot of the four teams in the NFC East to win the division, at 4-1. The Giants and Cowboys are co-favorites at 2-1, followed by the Redskins at 5-2.
