Broadway Philadelphia Presents "The Sound Of Music"
By RJ McKay
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Broadway Philadelphia presents "The Sound Of Music," March 15 through the 20th.
Frances Egler, director of Broadway Philadelphia programming, previews the show.
"Well this is the revival of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. It's directed by Jack O'brien, who's brought us great musicals like "Hairspray" and as he likes to call it, it's not your grandmother's "Sound Of Music." It's sort of both a re-thinking and traditional production of the classic show."
Frances explains one of the differences between this presentation and the original.
When it was originally written, it was written for Mary Martin, who was in her thirty's or almost forty's. And now Maria, who is now being played by a nineteen year old, which is what Maria actually would have been. It's kind of like a more sort of traditional look but it's also something that is just kind of a fresher approach on it."
