Broad Street Runners Help Cancer Patients And Families

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On May 1st, they will race to raise money for the American Cancer Society in the Broad Street Run, but last night, members of team CMMD, the top fundraising team for the ACS DetermiNation program for the Broad St. Run, were on their feet helping in another way.
The runners hosted a dinner for cancer patients and their caretakers currently staying at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society in Cheltenham.
According to ACS the lodge, "offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients being treated in the Philadelphia area. Patients live with others going through similar experiences and are supported by caring staff and volunteers."
The American Cancer Society explained that its DetermiNation program is "an endurance training program providing race training, running clinics, and race weekend amenities to athletes participating in the Broad Street Run and Philadelphia Marathon."
The dinner- and the team's fundraising- are part of ACS's 33rd year as "the signature charity partner of the Broad Street Run."
