Bringing Home The Bacon: Steve The Micro-Pig Returned
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- After a week-long Facebook campaign and a lot of public attention, Steve the pig is finally home.
According to owner Brian Maguire's girlfriend, Bernadette Broadhurst, Ridley Township's police commissioner personally returned Steve the pig.
"We're happy he's home and he's safe, and he ate a ton of food this morning and he's a lot bigger than he was a week ago…just like kids, they grow fast," Broadhurst said.
Steve went missing when he wandered out of the couple's yard last week. Township officials picked him up wandering in an alley and shipped him off to a farm, citing a Ridley Township ordinance that prohibits the ownership of farm animals.
Under pressure from area residents and legions of fans of the Facebook page the couple created, called "Where's Steve? Give Him Back Ridley," officials returned Steve, but the drama is not quite over yet: Police still insist the couple will have to get rid of Steve within two days.
Broadhurst says the 6-pound pig is not livestock, and that she and Maguire are consulting with a lawyer about what to do next. In the meantime, they're enjoying having Steve back.
"I'd just like to say thank you for all the support. We had a ton of people following the Facebook page and a lot of people willing to help," Broadhurst said.
Township officials did not return calls seeking comment.
