Bridge Inspections Could Snarl Traffic On I-676 Today
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you need to get across town today or tomorrow, you might want to give yourself some extra time.
The problem: scheduled bridge inspections today and tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Westbound 676 - the Vine Expressway. These bridge inspections have to be done during daylight.
It'll be set up between 21st and 22nd Streets, which is about half a mile from where the Vine merges onto the Schuylkill Expressway.
That's an area that's almost always backed up middays, even under good conditions, and this time of year, with possible zoo traffic, a lane closure could back traffic up across the Vine, to the Ben Franklin Bridge, and I-95.
As for alternates, from south jersey, you could use the Walt Whitman, but be warned there's construction there too. From Delaware County, take the Schuylkill and come in from the east. From 95 south, if things get really bad consider cutting across the Boulevard, but that may be a little out of the way.
Your best bet is to stay tuned to KYW Newsradio for traffic and transit on the two's throughout the day for continuing updates.
