Brent Celek Out Maximum Of A Week With MCL Sprain
By Spike Eskin & Ed Benkin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles have their first injury of training camp. Luckily, it's a minor one.
Tight end Brent Celek has an MCL sprain and will be out a maximum of seven days, according to 94WIP's Howard Eskin.
While Andy Reid is hoping to have his starting tight end back soon, he acknowledged the backup tight end will benefit from extra reps during Celek's absence:
"You try to find positives in everything," Reid said. "Do I want Celek out there? Yeah, I'd like him out there, but we will get a good look at the young guys."
The first practice with live hitting will take place Saturday afternoon. In the past, the practices with live hitting took place in the morning, but Reid believes there are benefits with hitting in the afternoon despite the increased heat and humidity:
"It allows the players to get a lot of fluids in," said Reid. "It also gives them an opportunity to get two meals in before that practice, which we think is important."
Workouts will take place at 8:15 and 2:45 through Monday and are open to the public.
Celek is the team's starting tight end, with Clay Harbor as the second string on the depth chart.
The Eagles have been rumored to have interest in former Saints and Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, though he has not been in for a workout yet.
