Knife-Wielding Suspect Shot By SEPTA Police At 69th Street Terminal
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) – Hundreds of people were inside SEPTA's 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby on Wednesday evening when a shooting occurred.
According to a SEPTA spokesman, SEPTA police were on patrol around 8 p.m. when a man pulled out a knife. Though officers ordered him to drop his weapon, the suspect ignored them then lunged at two officers.
Both of the officers discharged their weapons and shot the suspect in the shoulder and the side.
The suspect was transported to the hospital, and the extent of his injuries is unknown.
According to police, the knife-wielding suspect is a 55-year-old from Upper Darby, and he allegedly told someone who was treating his wounds that he wished the officers had shot him in the heart, leading them to believe he may have wanted to commit suicide.
69th Street Terminal was closed for a few hours while police investigated, but it reopened around 11 p.m.
