Boy, 8, Dies After Lindenwold Hit-Run; Driver Arrested
LINDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) – A young boy has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Camden County late Wednesday evening. The driver was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of the White Horse Pike and Elm Avenue in Lindenwold.
Police say eight-year-old Jahmil Alford, of Pennsauken, and his relatives were heading to the nearby PATCO station after spending time at Clementon Park, when the child was struck.
According to investigators, Jahmil was hit by a car driven by 57-year-old Michael Finkelman, of the 100 block of Woodburn Drive in Pine Hill. Investigators say Finkelman fled the scene immediately after.
Jahmil was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries at about 11 a.m. Thursday.
Another driver followed Finkelman and reported his license plate number to police. Finkelman is currently in police custody and is facing several charges.
