Boy, 4, Struck By Hit-Run Driver In Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police are asking for the public's help identifying the driver of a hit-and-run accident which occurred Friday morning on the 1600 block of Pratt Street.
Police say the driver left behind a 4-year-old boy critically injured with a broken nose and jaw.
Florence Ray is the victim's neighbor. She says she saw the 4-year-old boy out with his two siblings and their father, they had just walked out of their house to leave for school. Ray says she exchanged "hellos" and made it about half way down the block when she and other neighbors heard screams.
Ray said, "His big brother was there and kept crying, 'Oh my God, my brother, my brother,' he witnessed his brother get his by the car."
Police say the child may have darted out into traffic between two parked cars. According to eyewitnesses, the driver stopped for a few seconds then sped way. Neighbors told police what they saw.
Ray explained, "What we call: Poppy cabs. They're usually the Town Cars."
Police described the car as a silver Lincoln Town Car, about a 2004 model, tinted rear and passenger windows only, possibly marked as a limousine/car service vehicle, first two letters of the tag possibly "LM", with a tinted sunroof.
