Bottle Bomb Explodes In Gloucester County Freeholder's Mailbox
GLOUCESTER Co., NJ (CBS) – A bottle bomb exploded inside the home mailbox of a Gloucester County freeholder overnight.
According to Woolwich Township police, a soda bottle bomb was placed in the home mailbox of Gloucester County Freeholder Larry Wallace.
There were no injuries nor was there a fire resulting from the explosion of the mailbox, which was about 100 feet from the Wallace home.
Wallace reported the explosion to authorities early Thursday morning but the time of detonation has not been established. Police suspect the bottle bomb went off some time between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.
Police searched the neighborhood and surrounding area but failed to find any further acts of vandalism.
Bottle bombs can be made by combining volatile household chemicals into a closed container. When shaken, the chemicals create gas pressure that can cause the container to explode. Such explosions can cause injury or even death to any in the immediate area.
Police are searching for the suspect and urge anybody with information to report it to authorities.
