Booker Takes To US Senate Floor Ahead Of Same-Sex Marriage Arguments In Supreme Court Two Weeks From Now

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS) --- New Jersey Senator Cory Booker gave remarks on the US Senate floor on Monday in an effort to underscore the importance of marriage equality.
In just two weeks, the US Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on whether the US Constitution requires states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states.
Senator Cory Booker stood on the Senate floor telling the story of Jim Obergefell, lead plaintiff in the six cases to be heard from four states.
"Appealing to the highest court in the land to have their citizenship rights recognized...their love recognized," Booker said.
An Ohio resident, Obergefell's longtime partner John died from ALS just three months after they were married in another state. But he's listed as single on his death certificate.
"Their story is heartbreaking. It is inspiring. But unfortunately, in our nation it is all too common," said Booker.
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on April 28th.
