Bomb Threat To Carmike Cinemas Prompts Evacuations Of Local Theaters
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - A bomb threat forced the evacuation of three theaters in Montgomery and Lehigh counties on Friday.
According to authorities, Carmike Cinemas, headquartered in Georgia, received a threat early Friday morning, prompting police to search its theaters in multiple states including Pennsylvania.
The three theaters, located in Pottstown, West Pottsgrove and Allentown, were evacuated as bomb squads combed through the buildings.
The threat, which was not directed to any specific theater, reportedly said nine bombs would explode at the start of the new film "Expendables 2" at 1 p.m.
After an investigation, authorities declared the theaters to be safe at about 1:10 Friday afternoon. The theaters continued operations under their normal schedules.
