RIDLEY PARK, Pa. (CBS) -- Boeing  officials today were reminding the Delaware Valley about the economic importance of the company and two recent Defense Department orders for its plant in Delaware County, Pa.

Boeing vice president and general manager Leanne Caret says the two contracts -- for the CH-47 "Chinook" twin-rotor helicopter (top photo) and the V-22 "Osprey" VTOL (below) --  will fund production of a total of 337 aircraft between 2015 and 2019.

"These two five-year contracts, signed in June, total more than ten billion dollars, and bring stability not only to our workforce but to the local region," Caret said.  "In fact, in addition to the more than six thousand employees we have here at Boeing Ridley Park, we have 5,000 retirees in the local area, and we support more than 1,200 suppliers in the tristate area alone."

Caret called the contracts wonderful news for the local economy and noted they will improve the employment picture in the Delaware Valley.
