Boeing Announces Plans To Eliminate 41 Positions At Delaware County Plant
RIDLEY PARK, Pa. (AP) — Boeing is planning to eliminate 41 positions at its plant in Delaware County.
The Delaware County Daily Times reports the company says the layoffs will go into effect in the next several weeks. The moves are affecting mechanics, technicians and other positions.
The company says the changes are necessary in order to be competitive and affordable for its customers.
Boeing spokesman Damien Mills says the changes will help ensure the long-term viability of the company's business in the region. Union president Chris Owens says changes in market conditions are affecting the situation and that there hasn't been a layoff at the site in several years.
The plant in Ridley Park employs about 6,200 people and makes the H-47 Chinook helicopter and the V-22 Osprey for the military.
