Body Found In Wooded Area In Haddonfield, NJ
HADDONFIELD, N.J., (CBS) –Authorities in Camden County are investigating after they say a body found in Haddonfield appears to be a victim of a suspicious death.
The male body was found by joggers in a wooded area near Merion and Narberth Avenues shortly before 5 p.m. Monday night.
The suspicious death has parents in this Haddonfield neighborhood worried.
"There's a lot of kids back there playing during the day and taking hikes. Now we have to keep a look, see what's going on outer there," neighbor Craig Wolff said.
Authorities say identifying the man is not possible at this time due to decomposition.
An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday will confirm cause of death, but authorities say evidence gathered at the scene indicates the man's death is suspicious.
"It's suspicious that the man was found where he was found and until the autopsy is done tomorrow, then we'll know the cause of death. Right now we don't know the cause of death," Captain Frank Falco of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.
When asked if people in the neighborhood should be concerned for their own safety, authorities would only say this appears to be an "isolated incident."
"We will be picking up and having additional patrols in the area, especially around Halloween now with everything going on, just as a precaution," Nel Rochford, Haddonfield Safety Director said.
Investigators are hoping tattoos on the man's body will help identify him.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office's homicide unit is leading the investigation.
Authorities say further information will be released after an autopsy is completed.
