Boaters Taking Advantage Of Recent Decline In Gas Prices

DELRAN, Nj. (CBS) - As you may have noticed, gas prices are still moving in a friendly direction. Drivers are paying less than $3.50 a gallon in some areas of the region for the first time since February, according to AAA.
For boaters, the recent decline in fuel prices comes just in time.
"It's been really busy the past two weekends," said Riverside Marina owner Glen Winter.
Winter says his customers are taking advantage of surprisingly low gas prices considering what most analysts predicted earlier this year.
"I really thought we were going to be looking at $5, maybe $6 gasoline," he said.
Though gassing up a power boat still leaves a huge dent in your checking account. That is why Jean sparingly uses her twin-motor, beast of a boat.
"It's approximately $500 to fill it," she said. "That will get me down to Chesapeake City, and then I have to fill it again to come back."
Winter says to keeps costs down, stay close to home.
"Go out, run a little," he said. "Anchor, swim, play. Enjoy the river and enjoy the boat."
Jean only takes the boat out on special occasions now, instead of almost every week as she did several years ago.
"You definitely pick and choose your spots," she said.
At $1,000 round-trip, it makes you wonder…how much for sailing lessons?
