Fisher-Price Recalls 11 Million Toys And Other Items
Fisher-Price is recalling almost 11 million tricycles, toys, and high chairs over safety concerns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says two of the products are being recalled after reports of children being cut or choking.
Here are the details:
The recalls are led by seven million Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycles. At least 10 injuries were linked to the tricycles that have a protruding, D-shaped plastic ignition key. A child can strike, sit or fall on the key resulting in serious injury, including genital bleeding.
Also, almost one million Healthy Care, Easy Clean, and Close to Me High Chairs are being recalled. There have been 14 reports of problems with the high chairs, with seven children requiring stitches and one being treated for a tooth injury. Children can fall on or against pegs on the rear legs of the high chair that are used for tray storage.
About 2.8 million infant toys with inflatable balls are being recalled too, due to a choking hazard. The products include: Baby Playzone Crawl & Cruise Playground, Crawl & Slide Arcade, Baby Gymtastics Play Wall, Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium, 1-2-3 Tetherball Bat & Score Goal.
Finally, 100,000 Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway toys are being recalled. This is a toy that lets children push small cars along a track of ramps. There have been two reports of wheels detaching from the cars, posing a choking hazard.

The recall is the largest for toys since Congress passed a law two years ago beefing up the product-safety regulator's powers. Mattel and Fisher-Price were fined $2.3 million in June 2009 for toys violating federal lead-paint laws, at the time the largest civil fine in CPSC history.
