BLOG: 'Tag Your Own Bag'

By Nicole Brewer: Air travelers prefer self-service options to traditional tasks handled by agents, according to an industry survey. But, would you be willing to check your own luggage?

Later this year, American Airlines and Air Canada will partner with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for a 'tag your own bag' trial program.

The service, which is common in foreign airports, will let passengers print and tag their luggage without agent supervision. From there, an agent will check the ID, scan the tag and place it on the conveyor belt.

Airlines say self-tagging won't pose a security risk because bags are still screened behind the scenes. But, would you be willing to 'tag your own bag?'
